Glad-handing and Final Results
On Wednesday, April 1st Da Vinci High School seniors set up booths to begin their final part of Hail to the Chief, Glad Handing. After all of the wonderful presidential speeches all of the students went out to start the glad handing event. All of the teams had great booths. From the Iron Throne that the Party of Thrones created the various different forms of potatoes from the Fellowship of the King all of the teams did a great job at gathering handshakes.
Josh Party of Thrones:
Dylan Robin Hood:
The Fellowship of the King’s speech and glad handing booth were both very effective in keeping their audience engaged. Through their video and the speech given by presidential candidate Jake, they were able to engage the crowd. The Fellowship of the King’s glad handing was a hit among the younger classes. They had smoothies and all sorts of different types of potatoes. Unfortunately the Fellowship of the King Party did not win but they were very successful in engaging their audience and creating “fan base”.
The Senior Party collected followers and handshakes at Wednesday’s Glad-handing event and presidential speeches. Though his party was initially worried about the support they would receive, the Presidential Candidate Justin did a strong job of delighting the audience during his speech. Through the direct inclusion of the audience, he was able to touch the audience and keep many engaged throughout his speech. After the speeches, their booth too was effective. By the end of the event, almost all their food and prizes had been consumed and their president had received over 160 handshakes. Though this was not the most number of “votes” a party received from this event, Justin’s outgoing spirit did get his party more than many others. Ultimately, while they did not win the election, the Senior Party was successful by simply engaging community members while simultaneously holding true to their values.
Dylan 70’s Party:
The winning party of Hail to the Chief was Mom Squad. The runners up, Big League Boys and Wolf of Wall Street, failed to solicit as many votes because ultimately their excess of extreme “private sector” support and lack of locally centered issues. The Mom Squad, though not the personal favorite, is still an excellent choice for presidency. The team focuses on a wide array of individual issues and looks toward healing individuals to ultimately help the government as a whole. The voters must have looked toward the line stated by many members of the party, “America needs its mommy”, as the guiding beacon in this age’s so-called ‘dark times’. The results themselves were not hard to predict, the Mom Squad was very present throughout the campaign and even showed support to other groups in the process. Their Glad-handing presence was beloved by many, even though they did not receive the most handshake “votes”.
The team who did receive the top number of handshakes at Glad-Handing was The Big League Boys, which is not surprising on account of the members’ outgoing natures and popularity helping to attract support. Despite not having the highest number of votes, the Robin Hood Party had attracted interest with their small archery range. The soft-tipped arrow may have been too blunt to impact the election votes, but students with similar interests found their booth engaging. The same effect was had nearby at the Party of Thrones’ booth, Game of Thrones fans were drawn to their re-creation of the “Iron Throne”, while others simply meandered past. The Fellowship of the King had a wonderful set-up, offering a wide array of potato cuisine and smoothies. A few people stayed longer to experience their booth, others were looking for the henna tattoos that were being given by another group. That 70’s Party had another form of body art, face paint. Though it was easy to see who had stayed longer for this party’s booth, the Senior Party’s booth concentrated more on giving things away. They had an area where you could “fish” for little goody bags, as well as an assortment of cookies and muffins just like your Grandma might make. As described, many of the groups did well. However, most of these groups centered attention toward voters with specific interests. Groups like the Robin Hood Party and Party of Thrones probably lost voter support because of this. On the other hand, groups that gave away items were generally more popular, such as the Senior Party. While they didn’t come in first overall, the Senior Party did receive more handshake “votes” than either other Party. Evidently because they had given away items and focused toward broader interests, while simultaneously staying to their theme, The Big League Boys came in first with the most handshakes from Glad-handing.
